Group Exhibition – Painting
Pontoporos Gallery, Naoussa, Paros
Opening: Friday 11 July 2014
Juliano Kaglis, Ifiyenia Kamperi, Maria Bacha, Achilleas Razis, Dimitris Rokos, Stefanos Rokos, six artists with parallel and sometimes intersecting visual courses, co-exhibit in the summer of 2014 at the “Pontoporos” gallery in Paros.
Juliano Kaglis almost obsessive study of the female body is offered for a double interpretation. The sensuality exuded by Kaglis plasticity of gesture, coexists with the conscious removal of any unnecessary element, educating the viewer, thus introducing him to the joy and the difficulty alike, of the actual viewing of the human body.
Ifiyenia Kamperi with the small monotypes and her abstract compositions, explores the internal structure of things and the instant illustration of emotion, trying to overcome imaging and aesthetic norms.
Maria Bacha with memory and nostalgia paramount, composes landscapes of the past with man either omnipresent -even through his absence-or desensitized and transparently present as if in a time-worn memory. Animals and nature claim and obtain the leading role here.
Achilleas Razis surprises with images of the modern Greek semi-urban landscape, which interpret in a comprehensive way, and an oddly nostalgic one, the anonymous , offer meaning to chance, organize the “how and when”, but without ever providing an answer to “why” . (OR never providing an answer as to why)
Dimitris Rokos exorbitantly filled depictions of urban harshness, see-saws (OR acrobats) between reality itself, reality seen through a multiple of filters and in actuality seen through the distorting lens of the psyche. This is a personal interpretation of the absolute, which leaves an aftertaste of existential anxiety.
Stefanos Rokos offers doses of a poetic iconography of the everyday. The visual vehicle he has invented and built himself, penetrates a world so close to the one we know, but never consubstantial with him – always elusive and slightly deregulated. In the works of Stefanos Rokos, pleasure is generously given to the viewer , who has – unknowingly- been forever saturated with some of his everlasting inks .
Such a generous sum of pulsating recordings of today is offered – as a complete, but open to surprise and interpretation, creative proposal – from six visual artists with a common denominator in the summer of 2014 and the “Pontoporos” gallery in Paros.
